|Strategy: Healthy, Safe and Self-sufficient Families
Ensure that all families have access to an array of services to help them to develop healthy life styles, to remain safe and develop skills to become self-sufficient.
Students and Parents in Emanuel County
|Collaborative Development Training
Obtain TA support for further development and successful implementation of programs and to broaden community representation on the collaborative.
Community Resource Development
Provide links to services through community resouce guide, websites and community health fairs. Links will provide information on how to apply for services such as medicaid, PeachCare, public assistance, health services, continuing education, drug prevention/treatment, homeless assistance, etc.
Community Youth Centers
Community-based educational and recreational centers, such as Community Action for Youth (CAFY) which focus on providing tutorial services, character buildng and recreation for youth to promote learning as a life-long process and to encourage/motivate each child in this effort.
Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Prevention
Program support to The Refuge (Domestice Violence Shelter) and The Sunshine House CAC. The Sunshine House is dedicated to improving the community at-large by providing prevention, intervention, and aftercare services to all child victims of abuse, non-offending parents, agencies and professionals.
Support will be given to exsisting community-based programs for families and children, such as, Emanuel Arts Center, Franklin Memorial Library, and Recreation Department. Purpose of program is to encourage community programming to enhance the development of strong families.
Parent Involvement Inititiative
Work with community partners to develop more effective parent involvement. This would include supporting Title I Parent Involvement workshops and Parent Cafes for focus groups.
Collaborative initiative which will coordinate services between public health services, the schools, The Sunshine House CAC, the Pregnancy Care Center, Early Head Start and the community to develop an effective pregnancy prevention program.
Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention
Provide support for substance abuse and underaged drinking prevention programs/coalitions such as Hearts for Families (Step-up), Teen Reality, L.A.W. publications and Red Ribbon Week Activities. As well as suicide and bullying prevention support.
Weekend Backpack Program. Each weekend backpacks will be filled with enough non-parishable items to supply each qualified child with 4 meals.
Youth Enrichment Program
Focus on programs to help develop healthy relationship and leadership skills. Utilize community partners and youth advisory teams to offer workshops such as Babysitter classes, Relationship Smarts and parent/youth events including the arts.
