January PBIS Reward Day at Swainsboro Elementary

February 1

The PBIS program (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) at Swainsboro Elementary includes a reward day for students who have shown positive behavior and engagement in the classroom during the previous month. A variety of activities are offered during students’ rotation times on PBIS Reward Day.

This month, Family Connection sponsored six “Mystery Food Art” classes for PBIS eligible students. After learning about the associated health benefits of fruits’ and vegetables’ “color groups,” students joined teams and competed in a food art challenge. Students were asked to recreate an art sculpture by using a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Participating Collaborative partners judged each team’s sculpture and then selected a class winner for the “Mystery Food Art” challenge. See award-winning sculptures in the photos below!

The Mystery Food Art challenge is one of many Emanuel County Family Connection-sponsored programs that provides nutrition education with aims to prevent and reduce childhood obesity.

“Veggie Man” earned this team a winning title in the Mystery Food Art Challenge.

This hardworking team’s “Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head” was selected as a winning sculpture in the Mystery Food Art Challenge.
